About the Event
Voices of the Past, a guided tour of three historic cemeteries, provides an intimate look at the fascinating past of Montgomery, Texas, as told by actors representing the real people who are buried in those cemeteries. The Old Methodist Cemetery founded in 1838, the New City Cemetery founded in 1868, and the African American Montgomery Memorial Cemetery founded before 1865 are all included in the tour.
The city of Montgomery was an important center of activity in the Texas War for Independence from Mexico, a political center in the Republic of Texas, active in the Civil War, and a thriving commercial and agricultural leader in the days that followed. The design for the Lone Star flag of Texas originated here. Sam Houston and other Texas heroes were frequently in town.

The cemetery tour of citizens’ final resting places will include land developers, businessmen, gunmen and bank robbers, war heroes, sports stars, and educators.
